Objectives:
The goal of this program is to provide PTs with an evidence-based review of the application of ultrasound as a therapeutic modality and explain the implications of use during physical therapy interventions. After studying the information presented here, you will be able to —
  • Discuss the application of ultrasound and propose a use of the modality for successful musculoskeletal injury intervention.
  • Describe ultrasound parameters specific to the treatment goal of increasing tissue temperature.
  • Provide a review of the current literature regarding the effectiveness of ultrasound application on musculoskeletal injuries.

According to the Rules for the Administration of the Illinois Physical Therapy Act (section 13460.61) published by the Illinois Department of Professional Regulation, a physical therapist or physical therapist assistant applying for re-licensure in Illinois can earn a maximum of 50 percent of their required continuing education hours from self-study. The hours awarded of this course are designated for self-study CE credit.
