Objectives:
The goal of this webinar is to provide an overview of the current evidence on the health concerns of excess added sugars consumption and the safety and efficacy of low calorie sweeteners in weight management to enable healthcare providers to offer research-based practical advice to people they counsel to reduce added sugars consumption. At the conclusion of this webinar participants will be able to:
  1. Discuss the current intake of added sugars in the U.S. and related health concerns
  2. Describe the differences between the FDA process for a food additive and GRAS ingredient and identify the key elements for safety review of food additives
  3. Explain the results of recent research focused on the efficacy of low calorie sweeteners in weight management.
  4. Teach people they counsel how to change their beverage choices to reduce consumption of added sugars for health/disease prevention, and weight management.
