The goal of this presentation is to examine issues surrounding interoperability and the effects of increasing interoperability within nursing and healthcare in general. Upon completion, participants will be able to:
  • Define interoperability as it relates to Health Information Technology (HIT)
  • Discuss the purpose of interoperability
  • Describe the standards that are necessary to make data and information exchangeable
  • Examine the office of the National Coordinator’s Interoperability Roadmap
  • Identify how nurses can prepare for increased interoperability in healthcare
