The goal of this presentation is to discuss surgical site infection including preoperative, intraoperative and postoperative preventative efforts and interventions. Upon completion of this webinar, participants will be able to:
  • Define the diagnostic criteria, risk factors and causes of surgical site infection.  
  • Identify the Surgical Care Improvement Project performance measures that target prevention of postoperative infection.
  • Explain the importance of hand hygiene.
  • Recognize the importance of pre-surgery skin preparation and patient education.
