The goal of this presentation is to explain the basic principles of energy balance and to show how these principles can be used in clinical practice to help people avoid or reduce obesity. Upon completion, participants will be able to:
- Describe the basic principle of how the body achieves a balance between energy intake and energy expenditure
- Describe the complex interactions among component of energy balance – energy intake, energy expenditure, energy stores.
- Show how an understanding of energy balance can point us toward effective strategies to reduce obesity
