The goal of this webinar is to show how intrinsic motivation can positively impact behavior changes related to health. Upon completion, participants will be able to:
- Discuss how the basic human psychological needs for autonomy and relatedness impact motivation
- List at least two characteristics of autonomous versus controlled motivation and explain how each can affect a patient’s ability to make and maintain health behavior change
- Apply self-determination theory techniques to problems such as weight loss, dietary change and medication adherence, to increase patient engagement in health behavior change and improve health outcomes
