The goal of this presentation is to educate healthcare providers about the cancer divide that exists in outcomes and access to care for breast cancer between rich and poor countries as well as identity opportunities for expanding breast cancer care in low and middle income countries. Upon completion of this webinar, attendees will be able to:
  • Disprove the myths around breast cancer in developing countries and describe why it is a public health priority for LMICs.
  • Identify the different facets of the ‘cancer divide’ and identify its causes.
  • Explain the economic argument for investing in breast cancer care in LMICs and how the diagonal approach can be used to strengthen health systems.

Felicia Knaul, MA, PhD, manages grants, donations or in-kind support from GlaxoSmithKline, Avon Mexico, Hadassah Mexico Foundation, the National Institute of Public Health of Mexico, the Ministry of Health of Mexico, and Susan G Komen for the Cure for research on breast cancer, and from International Development Research Centre of Canada, NADRO and Chinoin Pharmaceutical Products for research on health equity.  She is currently applying for funding from Sanofi S.A., Roche Pharmaceuticals, Celgene Corporation, Pfizer Inc., and Johnson and Johnson.
