The purpose of this program is to introduce the biomechanical concepts of firearm and stabbing injuries and explain how those concepts relate to the care of the patient with penetrating trauma. After studying the information presented here, you will be able to:
  • Calculate the kinetic energy of a moving mass based on its weight and velocity
  • List at least three factors that affect the severity of firearm injuries
  • Describe common injuries associated with stab wounds to the trunk
