Objectives:
This course has been approved for 2 hours by the Commission on Case Manager Certification for 2014.
 
The goal of this interprofessional continuing education module is to provide an overview of the roles and interactions among a nurse, physical therapist, occupational therapist and speech-language pathologist as they address the complex rehabilitation and medical needs of an older adult who has experienced a post-surgical thrombocytic cerebrovascular accident. Healthcare professionals who participate in this interprofessional course will be able to:
  • Describe the distinct and interactive roles of nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and speech-language pathologists who work in concert to address the immediate and long-term needs of an older adult patient with complex health problems
  • Articulate typical assessment and intervention approaches across the acute care and rehabilitation phases of treating an older adult patient who has experienced an embolic stroke
  • Explain how the roles and functions of an interdisciplinary healthcare team complement one another, requiring interprofessional communication and coordination of services
