The purpose of this program is to raise nursing awareness about anaphylaxis and to ensure that nurses know how to respond to anaphylactic reactions. After studying the information presented here, you will be able to:
  • Identify the symptoms of an anaphylactic reaction
  • List the three most common causes of anaphylaxis
  • Describe the emergency treatment for anaphylaxis

In the June 4 CE module, “Anaphylaxis: A Whole-Body Allergic Reaction,” there was an error in the information on epinephrine, the treatment of choice for anaphylaxis. The maximum dose for adults is 0.5 mg, not 0.5mg/kg as stated in the module. Or, epinephrine, 0.01 mg/kg of a 1:1,000(1mg/mL) solution(maximum dose, 0.5 mg) for adults.

This course will be updated or discontinued on or before 6/4/2015
