The goal of this continuing education program is to inform nurses, dietitians, emergency medical technicians, paramedics and physicians about therapeutic hypothermia, including its history, indications for use and possible future uses. It also describes how to care for patients undergoing therapeutic hypothermia. After studying the information presented here, you will be able to:
  • Explain indications for therapeutic hypothermia
  • Describe care of the patient who is undergoing therapeutic hypothermia
  • Discuss the process of initiating and terminating therapeutic hypothermia
