Objectives:
The goal of this endemic mycoses continuing education program is to provide nurses, laboratory professionals, pharmacists and physicians with information on the rising incidence of three life-threatening endemic fungal diseases in the U.S. After studying the information presented here, you will be able to:
  • Name three endemic fungi of medical importance in the U.S. and describe their geographic distribution
  • Describe the three diseases associated with dimorphic fungi
  • Explain why endemic fungal diseases are difficult to diagnose and treat
