Objectives:
The purpose of this program is to provide nurses, physicians, dietitians, dietary managers, fitness professionals, health educators, laboratory professionals, radiologic technologists, social workers, EMTs and paramedics and respiratory therapists with information about the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), especially as it relates to protected health information. After studying the information presented here, you will be able to:
  • Describe the intent of HIPAA
  • Implement professional practices that protect patients’ privacy
  • Incorporate practices that protect security of electronic protected health information
