The goal of this continuing education module is to provide acute and critical care clinicians with evidence supporting the use of noninvasive positive pressure ventilation (NPPV) as well as strategies for its application. After studying the information presented here, you will be able to:
  • Describe the advantages of NPPV versus endotracheal intubation
  • State the difference between bilevel support and continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP)
  • Discuss alternative interface devices and related care for patients requiring NPPV
