Objectives:
The goal of this module is to provide nurses, dietitians, dietary managers, EMTs and paramedics, health educators, occupational therapists, radiologic technologists and social workers and other providers with information about the Romani (Gypsy) culture so they can provide culturally congruent care to Romani patients and their families. After studying the information presented here, you will be able to:
  • Describe the history of the Romani people, including geographical origin, language and religion
  • Identify healthcare-related cultural values and traditions important to the Romani patient and family
  • Discuss interventions helpful in integrating Romani cultural values and traditions into the plan of care
