The purpose of this continuing education program is to introduce nurses to the physiological effects of hypothermia in the critically injured trauma patient and to provide rewarming strategies to be used during trauma resuscitation. After studying the information presented here, you will be able to:
  • Define hypothermia as it relates to the critically injured trauma patient
  • List at least four negative physiological effects of hypothermia on the critically injured trauma patient
  • Name at least four strategies to prevent or treat hypothermia in the critically injured trauma patient
