The goal of this continuing education program is to familiarize nurses, physician, and social workers with the issues in and strategies for providing effective care to mental health clients of diverse cultures.  After studying the information presented here, you will be able to:
  • Explain why clients of diverse cultures with mental health needs are encountering disparities
  • Distinguish between some of the different assumptions and values that mental health providers and clients hold, which influence their approaches to mental health
  • Select assessment and intervention strategies that promote culturally competent care
