The goal of this program is to help nurses and advanced practice nurses (APNs) identify patients with polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) and have the clinical skills to help explain the syndrome, treatment options and potential long-term consequences of untreated PCOS. After studying the information presented here, you will be able to:
  • Describe the clinical signs and symptoms of PCOS
  • Discuss the diagnostic work-up and treatment suggestions to patients with PCOS
  • Discuss the nurse’s role in teaching the patient about long-term health effects of PCOS and the APN’s role in preventing and managing its long-term effects
