Objectives:
The goal of this continuing education program is to update nurses’, dietitians’, dietary managers’, health educators’, laboratory professionals’ and physical therapists’ understanding of metabolic syndrome and its implications in the prevention, diagnosis and management of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease. After studying the information presented here, you will be able to:
  • Define metabolic syndrome as it relates to insulin’s normal mechanism of action
  • Discuss the relationship of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease in metabolic syndrome
  • Discuss current and future practice guidelines used in the prevention and management of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease as they relate to insulin resistance/metabolic syndrome
