Objectives:
This course will be discontinued December 31, 2014. Please plan to complete the test by the end of December 30th if you wish to earn contact hours for it.
 
The goal of this continuing education module is to familiarize nurses with disparities between recommended and actual acute, chronic and primary care of children and to provide them with strategies for improvement. After studying the information presented here, you will be able to:
  • Identify gaps between best scientific knowledge and actual primary care for the management of childhood asthma, otitis media and gastroenteritis/dehydration.
  • Relate key aspects of the Institute of Medicine’s strategy for change in pediatric care and its implications for nursing practice.
  • Discuss how symptom diaries and management plans can connect parents, children and providers with guidelines for the ambulatory management of childhood asthma, otitis media and gastroenteritis/dehydration.
