Objectives:
The goal of this continuing education module is to update nurses’ and physicians’ ability to identify and treat people with hypertension. After studying the information presented here, you will be able to:
  • Describe common risk factors that, along with hypertension, increase a patient’s risk for stroke and cardiovascular disease
  • List the four classes of antihypertensive medications used in the initial treatment of hypertension.
  • Demonstrate appropriate screening and referral of adults at risk for hypertension
