The goal of this module is to understand the reasons for endoscopic procedures of the upper and lower GI tract, the schedule for these endoscopic procedures, the methods for endoscopic procedures, and nursing role in the safe and efficient performance of these procedures. After studying the information presented here, you will be able to:
  • List the reasons for endoscopic procedures of the upper and lower GI tract
  • Discuss the intraprocedural role of the nurse during an endoscopic procedure
  • List possible complications during and after an endoscopic procedure
