We’re sorry. This course is temporarily disabled for an important update.

The goal of this webinar is to enable healthcare professionals to make hydration-related recommendations that are consistent with a healthy lifestyle and to summarize the current science on how hydration influences acute conditions, chronic disease, and the responses to physical activity. Upon completion, participants will be able to:
  • Explain how the body regulates its hydration status (i.e., fluid balance)
  • Describe how small changes in the hydration status of the human body affect important cardiovascular and thermoregulatory functions
  • Explain how drinking enough fluid during physical activity sustains physiological functions and improves performance
  • Explain how consuming too much fluid during physical activity increases the risk of hyponatremia, a potentially life-threatening electrolyte imbalance

Ron Maughan, PhD, Emeritus Professor of Sport and Exercise Nutrition, Loughborough University, discloses that he is on the board of the European Hydration Institute and that his wife, Dr. Susan M. Shirreffs, is an employee of GlaxoSmithKline.
Robert Murray, PhD, FACSM, Founder and principal of Sports Science Insights, LLC, discloses he is a consultant for The Coca Cola Company.
