The goal of this pregnancy outcome and nutritional status module is to provide dietitians, health educators and nurses with information on factors that may affect pregnancy outcome. Topics include risk factors for poor pregnancy outcome, nutrition and fertility, the development of diseases later in life and epigenetics. After studying the information presented here, you will be able to:
  • Identify risk factors for poor pregnancy outcome
  • Discuss the impact of the nutritional status of pregnant women on pregnancy outcome
  • List three factors that influence the nutritional status of a pregnant woman
  • Explain epigenetics and how it may be influenced by nutrition status
