Objectives:
The goal of this continuing education program is to provide nurses, dietitians and social workers with the skills necessary to identify alcoholism in their hospitalized patients and to intervene on their behalf. After studying the information presented here, you will be able to:
  • Incorporate the CAGE questionnaire into the admission assessment of a hospitalized patient
  • List three risk factors for the development of alcoholism
  • Identify laboratory findings pertinent to the alcoholic patient
