The goal of this program is to provide nurses with information on the prevalence, symptoms, diagnosis, treatment and prevention of pertussis. After studying the information presented here, you will be able to:
  • Discuss three reasons for the increase in pertussis cases
  • Describe the three stages of pertussis and the associated symptoms
  • Explain why after an exposure to pertussis, a vaccinated healthcare worker should take prophylactic antibiotics
