Objectives:
The goal of this continuing education program is to educate dietitians, health educators, nurses, pharmacists, and physical therapists on the importance of promoting a physically active lifestyle to their clients with type 2 diabetes mellitus as an essential component of diabetes management for better control of the disease. After studying the information presented here, you will be able to:
  • Discuss the underlying problems inherent with T2DM, and explain how proper control of blood glucose, lipids, and blood pressure in people who have or are at risk for developing T2DM influences their prognoses
  • Discuss the impact of a sedentary lifestyle on the development of T2DM and the role a physically active lifestyle plays in the prevention and control of the disease
  • State the three components of a physically active lifestyle that people with T2DM can adopt to manage their disease
