Objectives:
The goal of this program is to provide nurses, dietitians, dietary managers, EMTs and paramedics, health educators, occupational therapists, physicians, radiologic technologists and social workers the background knowledge of Chinese immigrants’ journey to the United States, their cultural health beliefs and values and the skills necessary to provide culturally competent care. After studying the information presented here, you will be able to:
  • Discuss demographics of the U.S. Chinese immigrant population
  • Describe Chinese cultural health beliefs and explanatory models of illness
  • Explain the healthcare professional’s role in ensuring culturally competent care for Chinese patients
