Objectives:
The purpose of this program is to inform nurses about performing telephone triage for upper respiratory infections (URIs) among adult and pediatric populations, as well as the most common outcomes and recommended self-care. The etiology of the common URI and its impact on personal and public health also will be reviewed. After studying the information presented here, you will be able to:
  • Identify the common outcomes of triaging URIs in healthy adults
  • Discuss three considerations when triaging URIs in pediatric patients
  • Name at least four possible outcomes when a patient calls a triaging institution
