Objectives:
The goal of this program is to familiarize nurses, laboratory professionals and pharmacists with chemical agents that can be used in a terrorist attack and some of the special considerations for children. After studying the information presented here, you will able to:
  • Discuss the types of chemical agents that can be used as weapons
  • Describe the healthcare professional’s role in recognizing symptoms related to a chemical attack
  • Identify the signs and symptoms and management of victims exposed to nerve agents, cyanides, respiratory irritants and vesicants and the differences between the reactions of children and adults
  • Discuss the healthcare issues related to a chemical attack, especially as it relates to children
