The goal of this continuing education program is to update nurses’ knowledge about breastfeeding, so they can provide research-based breastfeeding support and education to the families for whom they care. After studying the information presented, you will be able to:

  • Describe the basics of breastfeeding
  • List three barriers to breastfeeding
  • Discuss how healthcare professionals can promote breastfeeding

  • Identify three alternative feeding methods to breastfeeding
  • Identify the relationship between medications and breast milk
  • Discuss contraception counseling for breastfeeding mothers
