We’re sorry. This course is temporarily disabled for an important update.

This course will be discontinued on May 31, 2015, because a new version of it (60214 Support of the Childbearing Family Through Education) is now available.
The goal of this self-study module is to explain the pain-management strategies and information taught in childbirth preparation programs, so that nurses may incorporate these skills into the care of their patients. At studying the information presented here, you will be able to:
  • Review historical precedents in childbirth education
  • Differentiate between the variety of educational programs for childbearing families during the perinatal period
  • Discuss ways healthcare providers can promote positive outcomes during the family’s interaction with the healthcare system
  •  List ways to handle problems in labor and conflicts in parents’ expectations and the realities experienced in their individual labor and delivery experiences
  • Discuss methods of physical and emotional support for the childbearing family using information taught in childbirth education classes
Effective 8/1/2014, the Florida Board of Nursing will not accept contact hours offered in tenth hour increments (example: 1.6 contact hours). Course contact hours will be rounded down to the nearest half hour (example: 1.6 contact hours becomes 1.5 contact hours, 1.4 contact hours becomes 1.0 contact hours). This course will be reported to CE Broker for FL RNs, LPNs, ARNPs, and CNSs as 4 hours.

This course will be updated or discontinued on or before 5/31/2015
