Objectives:
The goal of this program is to provide evidence-based recommendations for sedation, central line-associated blood stream infections (CLABSIs) and early enteral feeding so nurses can better care for critically ill patients. After studying the information presented here, you will be able to —
  • Describe “sedation vacation” protocols for mechanically ventilated ICU patients.
  • State the nurse’s role in decreasing CLABSIs.
  • Discuss current recommendations for early initiation of enteral feedings in critically ill patients.
