Objectives:
The goal of this program is to inform nurses about the most common sexually transmitted diseases and STDs that are becoming more prevalent in the United States. After studying the information presented in here, you will be able to —
  • Explain why women are at greater risk of STDs than men and why health problems caused by STDs are more severe for women.
  • Discuss three of the most common STDs in the U.S. as well as two older STDs that are becoming more prevalent.
  • Discuss why Americans have the highest rates of STDs in the industrialized world.
