Objectives:
The goal of this program is to provide nurses and occupational therapists with information about some of the most common, but possibly unfamiliar, diseases in Haiti. After studying the information presented here, you will be able to:
  • List at least three reasons outbreaks of infectious disease may occur in post-earthquake environments, such as in Haiti
  • Discuss the epidemiology and symptoms of typhoid fever, hepatitis E, lymphatic filariasis, leptospirosis and human rabies
  • Explain what vaccines, medications and precautions are recommended for healthcare workers traveling to Haiti
