Objectives:

The goal of this program is to provide nurses with information about the new H1N1 swine flu and hospitals' efforts to prepare for an influenza pandemic and to encourage nurses to prepare themselves and their families. After studying the information presented here, you will be able to —

  • Discuss three reasons nurses should be concerned about the next influenza pandemic.
  • Explain why it will take several months for a vaccine for H1N1 to become available.
  • Describe at least five items needed for personal preparedness.
