The goal of this module is to provide nurses with an overview of dialysis and the nursing management of patients with end-stage renal disease/chronic kidney disease, stage 5 in nondialysis settings. After studying the information presented here, you will be able to —
  • Describe the components necessary for dialysis.
  • Explain the types of access needed for dialysis.
  • Describe the nurse’s role in caring for patients with renal failure.
