The purpose of this module is to help nurses, paramedics and EMTs and radiologic technologists recognize that infectious diseases that originate in other parts of the world are not stopped at the borders of the U.S. and that there is an increasing possibility that they will encounter some of these emerging diseases in their practice. After studying the information presented here, you will be able to:
- Describe three reasons why new diseases emerge or reemerge in the U.S.
- Identify at least four emerging diseases that threaten people in the U.S.
- Give two reasons for the increase in antibiotic-resistant pathogens
