Objectives:
The goal of this module is to inform nurses, pharmacists, dietitians, paramedics and EMTs, fitness professionals, health educators, physical therapists, physicians and radiologic technologists about the common over-the-counter, prescription and herbal products that cause renal and liver toxicity, with an emphasis on patient populations at risk. After studying the information presented here, you will be able to:
  • Discuss the drugs that cause renal toxicity and list their mechanisms of toxicity
  • Discuss the drugs that cause liver toxicity and list their mechanisms of toxicity
  • Identify risk factors for the development of drug-induced renal or liver toxicity
