The goal of this module is to inform nurses about the common OTC, prescription, and herbal products that cause renal and liver toxicity, with an emphasis on patient populations at risk. After studying the information presented here you will be able to —

  • Discuss the drugs that cause renal toxicity and list their mechanisms of toxicity.
  • Discuss the drugs that cause liver toxicity and list their mechanisms of toxicity.
  • Identify patient risk factors for the development of drug-induced renal or liver toxicity.
