The goal of this program is to provide nurses and EMTs and paramedics with information about indomethacin (Indocin) and ibuprofen (Motrin, Advil) as options for treating symptomatic patent ductus arteriosus in preterm infants. After studying the information presented here, you will be able to:
- Discuss the pathophysiology and symptomatology of PDA in the preterm infant
- Describe the risks and benefits of pharmacologic treatment options for preterm infants with symptomatic PDA
- Explain clinician interventions for infants undergoing treatment for symptomatic PDA
