The goal of this continuing education program is to provide the perioperative team with information about proper positioning of the patient undergoing surgery and other invasive procedures with an emphasis on avoiding intraoperative nerve damage to the upper extremity. After studying the information here, you will be able to —
- Identify areas of the upper extremities at highest risk for developing position-related nerve damage during operative or other invasive procedures.
- Discuss the collaborative efforts of the perioperative nurse, anesthesia provider, assisting personnel and surgeon required for patient positioning.
