Objectives:

The goal of this program is to provide nurses with information about the risks, benefits, and therapeutic ramifications of endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS) as it relates to patients with newly diagnosed and long-term diseases of the GI tract. After studying the information presented here, you will be able to —
  • Describe the role of EUS in the evaluation and staging of diseases of the GI tract and the indications for and limitations of EUS.
  • Identify the educational needs of patients preparing to have EUS.
  • Describe the role of the nurse during EUS procedures.
