Objectives:
The goal of this program is to provide nurses with information about the incidence, etiology, identification and treatment of abdominal trauma. After you study the information presented here, you will be able to —
  • Identify the components of primary, secondary and focused emergency assessments.
  • Describe the two major mechanisms of injury in abdominal trauma and give two examples of each.
  • Discuss the three most commonly performed diagnostic examinations for abdominal trauma in the ED.
