Objectives:
The goal of this program is to update healthcare providers' understanding of metabolic syndrome and its implications in the prevention, diagnosis, and management of type 2 diabetes mellitus and cardiovascular disease. After you study the information presented here, you will be able to —
  • Define metabolic syndrome as it relates to insulin’s normal mechanism of action.
  • Discuss the relationship of type 2 diabetes mellitus and cardiovascular disease in metabolic syndrome.
  • Discuss current and future practice guidelines used in the prevention and management of type 2 diabetes mellitus and cardiovascular disease as they relate to insulin resistance/metabolic syndrome.
