Objectives:
The goal of this continuing education module is to provide general information about multiple sclerosis and update nurses’, physical therapists’ and radiologic technologists’ knowledge of current treatment, including management of symptoms and relapses and slowing disease progression. After studying the information presented here, you will be able to:
  • Identify two interventions for each of the common MS problems of fatigue, mobility impairment and elimination dysfunction
  • Describe the current treatment for acute relapses
  • List four of the first-line disease-modifying medications, including the two new oral drugs, approved by the Food and Drug Administration for management of relapsing forms of MS
