Objectives:
The goal of this irritable bowel syndrome continuing education program is to educate nurses about irritable bowel syndrome, or IBS, and provide updated information about new treatment options and pharmacological agents to help patients live with this chronic GI disorder. After studying the information presented here, you will be able to —
  • Define IBS and identify the key symptoms.
  • Describe how IBS is diagnosed and treated.
  • Identify ways that nurses can help patients with IBS and improve their quality of life.
