Objectives:
The goal of this program is to update and enhance nurses’ ability to care for patients who receive moderate sedation and analgesia and to familiarize nurses with applicable standards from The Joint Commission and other specialty organizations. After you study the information presented here, you will be able to —
  • Differentiate between levels of sedation/analgesia and general anesthesia.
  • Identify medications used to achieve moderate sedation/analgesia.
  • List the preprocedural, procedural and postprocedural nursing care of patients who receive moderate sedation/analgesia.
