The goal of this program is to enhance healthcare professionals’ ability to identify and treat children, adolescents, adults and the elderly who are victims of violence and abuse. The completion of this module is intended to satisfy a three-hour continuing education requirement for healthcare professionals on the subject of domestic violence and abuse across patients’ lifespan. After studying the information presented here, you will be able to:
- Identify the role intimate partner advocacy plays in helping victims/survivors to understand that the physical, sexual and/or emotional abuse is not their fault but an issue of power and control
- Relate direct and indirect questions that broach the subject of violence and abuse with patients, partners, and family members, and screen for abuse
- Identify risk factors and signs and symptoms associated with adolescent dating violence
- List steps ensuring the safety of abused women who decide to leave an abusive environment
