Objectives:

This course has been approved for 4 clock hours by the Commission on Case Manager Certification from January 1, 2006 through December 31, 2009.

The purpose of this course is to present the fundamentals of case management to nurses so they can apply the concepts to practice and to understand better the value of case management in today’s healthcare system.

  1. Describe the relationship of case management and managed care.
  2. Name three advantages nurses bring to the case management role.
  3. Name three core knowledge areas needed for the effective practice of case management.
  4. Discuss two methods of reimbursement and how they affect the delivery of healthcare services.
  5. List three settings of practice in which case managers work and explain how they are utilized.
